What does the word limousine mean in the dictionary? Cattle! Yes, actually it is a term for a French cow breed which today is bred as meat animals. There is also a district in the north of France that is named Limousine. But the thing we most associate with the word Limousine is an extended car with exclusive fittings.
The American variant of limousine, also perhaps the most known that people often connect with limousine, are these extremely extended cars which are built from ordinary cars. These buildings are often very complicated procedures since the vehicles are so long and have self-supporting bodyworks. Because of this, Lincoln and Cadillac have often been used since these cars are lying on a longitudinal girder from the beginning which makes them much easier to lengthen.

Everything from 60 inches to 180 inches has been built, but there has of course been some custom-made buildings that have been longer. One can say that the limit is at 120 inches, everything beyond this shouldn’t be driveable when it comes to more narrow passages, at least when it comes to Swedish conditions.
